Woody Hancock has been building boats all his life and built his first at age 15. He learned how to design and build wooden boats from past generations of boat builders on Harkers Island, NC, where Woody was raised. With 100% glass and composite materials, a Hancock boat today is still built very strong and built to last. Although some of his designs have been evaluated by marine architects, Woody has always used his seaman’s eye to build boats that “look right and do the job”. He employs a unique ‘pad’ in the hull form of the V bottoms to create lift, reduce drag and improve stability off shore. The performance and utility of both shoal draft ‘Flats’ skiffs and off shore V bottoms are proof that he got it right.
